On March 26, 2003, Falling Branch Katie of Blackburn was bred to Oakwood Simon of Brandywine (Fox Run Chili x Fox Run Francine).  The following are brief synopses of these two terriers:

(From Simon's page on www.brandywineterriers.com): Simon is 12 3/4", B&W, with a harsh broken coat.  Simon is a lovely mover with great bone and flexibility, and his exceptional conformation, pedigree and calm, quiet temperament make him an outstanding stud prospect.  A serious worker in the field, Simon maintains great presence in the ring and perfect manners at home.  We are thrilled to have Simon at Brandywine, and his first season of puppies already exhibit the elegance in attitude and conformation of his many impressive ancestors.  He holds a JRTCA bronze medallion (raccoon, possum, groundhog), was 2001 JRTCC Best Dog Pup/Reserve Puppy Champion, and has numerous working terrier championships to his credit.

Katie is 10 1/2", B&W, with a smooth coat.  She's a personable, assertive, energetic terrier who is the alpha terrier amongst the Blackburn crew.  She's just as content competing in go-to-ground or racing at a terrier trial as she is lounging on the couch with her humans.  Field work is her true love, however.  She's been afield dozens of times the past few years and has worked raccoon, groundhog and possum.  Raccoon is definitely her preferred quarry - like her dam, Falling Branch Patch.  She has a wonderful voice and one can always tell the difference in pitch when Katie is on a coon.  Katie earned her NHC to raccoon in September, 2001.

Overall, Katie is an intelligent, yet cautious hunter who has never been seriously injured in the field.  She knows how to handle herself, knows her size limitations and knows how to avoid dangerous situations.  She has experienced one of the most dreaded situations to any terrier & terrierman - skunk.  She experienced a skunk in the ground and knew to BAIL OUT on such a situation.  We hope to not repeat the lesson any time soon!
